Janelle, LMSW

Janelle: LMSW

I am a transplant from a suburb of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and moved here to complete my master’s program. I have a masters in social work (MSW) from Boise State University, as well as a certificate in addiction studies and a bachelor’s in psychology from the University of Minnesota. I am a licensed alcohol and drug counselor (LADC) in Minnesota and worked in the field for 10 years. I am a recent Licensed master social worker (LMSW) in the state of Idaho.
My practice is grounded in Person-Centered therapy, along with a Humanistic, Strength-Based, and Trauma-Informed approach. I use a wide range of treatment modalities that depend on the client’s needs, including Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness training. Therapy works best when a trusting and collaborative relationship exists between a client and their clinician. My focus is on providing a safe and non-judgmental space for my clients to be heard, respected, empowered, and supported while experiencing well-being, self-discovery, healing, and growth. In my free time, I enjoy dog-sitting, riding my motorcycle, tracking down waterfalls, hiking, bicycling, Tai Chi, reading, and spending time with my French Bulldog, Luna.

Susie, LMSW

Kate: LMSW

Hi, I’m Kate! I specialize in working with children, teens, and adults who are navigating a range of issues, including anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, life transitions, trauma, and attachment difficulties. I have experience working with individuals who have experienced domestic and sexual violence and those in the LGBTQIA+ community who may be facing unique struggles. I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is at the heart of healing. As such, I strive to create a safe, affirming, and client-centered space for all individuals. There is no therapeutic goal too big or small. If your goal is important to you, it is important to me.

I believe in a humanistic approach to therapy and keep each client’s individuality at the center of my practice. I draw from a number of therapeutic approaches including attachment focused therapy, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and somatic approaches to promote holistic well-being and foster positive change. I believe that every individual has the inherent strengths to heal from the past and find peace, joy, and purpose in the present. Beginning therapy is a significant step and I am honored to walk alongside individuals wherever they are at in their healing
journey.

Outside of my work, my passions include creating art and engaging in various outdoor activities. I’m originally from rural Eastern Oregon, so I am often out discovering the best hot springs, paddleboarding, hiking, and camping spots that Idaho has to offer. I am enthusiastic about integrating elements of these passions into a holistic therapeutic approach to help my clients improve their emotional and mental wellbeing.

I’m a very authentic person. I’ve been described as energetic and easy to talk to. I have wanted to help others for a large part of my life, and that desire has taken me through some interesting roads in life. As an academic, I have studied religion, philosophy, communication, and psychology. I moved from Virginia to Idaho because of the feel of the state. I liked the energy and the idea of connecting with nature. I earned a Master’s in Social Work from BSU a few years ago but have been working in the field since I moved here in 2011. I have worked with children and adults in various scopes and scenarios. I was a community provider (PSR/CBRS), a crisis counselor, a direct care technician, and a developmental specialist. I have practiced in locations ranging from Intermountain to Pathways Crisis Center and Gem State Developmental Services. I am an advocate for human rights and equality. I am passionate about spirituality and the journey we all find ourselves on; growing into ourselves and becoming; the process of waking up. I love working with the LGBT community and Native Americans especially, but it is my job to help you where you are at. I want you to feel heard, valued, and to help you move forward, growing in the ways that you need to at this point in your life. Challenges do not define us. We define ourselves.

She provides counseling to adults, teens and families, and has a passion for homeless and traumatized populations. She has experience with diagnosis, treatment planning, and creating evidence-based planning.  She has worked in clinical and substance abuse populations.

Linda: LCSW

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Registered Clinical Supervisor in both Idaho and Oregon. I graduated from University of Idaho in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology and Criminal Justice as well as Northwest Nazarene University in 2003 with a Master of Social Work. I believe life is not linear but cyclical with each experience healing or hindering our growth. Our past is a guide to our present and future. One of the things I enjoy most about my profession is its versatility. I have had the opportunities to work in inpatient and outpatient settings for mental health as well as alcohol and drug counseling, the legal system (probation), with the United States Military as a social worker, and in private practice. Currently, I am doing Clinical Supervision for master’s level social workers and counselors seeking to grow, get support and leadership,  as well as obtain their advanced licensure.

Pursuing therapy can bring up a myriad of feelings as we are more than the reason’s we pursue therapy. These reasons are critical to helping people tap into their strengths and resilience for healing. Unconditional positive regard and absolute acceptance is the foundation for your journey to health. At the end of the day, with a positive relationship with your counselor and different types of counseling approaches, the opportunity for growth is limitless. It is an honor to be a part of your journey.  Welcome to A Body and Mind Health Services!

Leah, LCPC

Leah: LCPC

I’ve been working in the mental health field since 2013. I have a Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Utah State, and my professional experience includes working for the State of Idaho’s Division of Voc Rehab, a Primary Care clinic, and traditional counseling settings. When starting with new clients, I typically focus on levels of anxiety and managing the different ways anxiety can manifest in the body. We all have anxiety, and we all could use some help making peace with it. I have deep knowledge and appreciation of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, I make sure that my clients get familiar with the basic principles of CBT, as CBT is one of the most effective treatments for anxiety, depression, and PTSD. I am certified as a trauma treatment expert, and I do use EMDR when it’s appropriate. When I’m not at work, I enjoy hanging out with my family, being outside (of course), and deep, purposeful breathing. I do a lot of breathing.

Sharon, LCPC

Sharon: LCPC

Hi! I am an LCPC who ended up in Boise after living in various places around the country. I first got my MFT license in California, then became licensed as an LMHC in Florida before moving to Boise. I have worked as a counselor in these states since 2004, after earning my MA from Sonoma State University. Before becoming a counselor, I earned an advanced degree in sociology and psychology and taught those subjects for over 15 years. I have also been a mediator and trainer. Becoming a counselor was a natural progression from these careers. I worked extensively with adolescents and young adults in my prior occupations. After becoming a counselor, I spent my first five years as a substance abuse counselor for the County of Sonoma. Since then, I have worked in a variety of settings with a wide range of populations and have enjoyed every single one of them. I feel the most important quality I can bring to a counseling relationship is my authenticity and total acceptance of my clients. I believe that is the true basis for any change. I feel privileged to get to know clients’ inner lives, and I treat that with profound respect. I also like to be informal, and I like it when sessions can be playful as well as serious. Finally, I believe my role is to accept you where you are, use my skills to help you identify and become the person you want to be, and enjoy the process. I encourage my new clients to trust their feelings about collaborating with me. If, for any reason, someone does not feel comfortable, they will not progress. Finding the right fit is part of the successful process. In my free time, I am somewhat of a nerd: I love to read and watch movies, work in my garden, go for walks, play with animals, and travel. As I said, I also like to laugh, especially at myself.

Tori: LMSW

I am an Idaho native and graduated with my bachelor’s in psychology from Idaho State University and completed my master’s in social work at Northwest Nazarene University. I am an LMSW social worker, and I absolutely love working with children, teens, and young adults. Most of my experience is with anxiety, depression, all types of traumas, and eating disorders. I use a wide range of treatment modalities that are individualized to my client’s needs, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). My focus is to ensure a safe and non-judgmental space for my clients, where they feel heard, respected, empowered, and supported while going through self-discovery, healing, and growth. My passion for helping others has been ingrained in me since I was young. People would ask what I wanted to be when I grew up, and I would always say I wanted to help people. Initially, I thought that meant I would become a heart doctor to fix people’s hearts, but as I grew up, I figured out I’m actually not good with blood so that obviously had to steer me in another direction. I am happy and fulfilled working in this field.

Steven: LPC

Hello, I am a marriage and family therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor and I have been actively working with individuals, couples and families for nearly thirty years, six as a professional therapist. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as the backbone of my therapy, working with some DBT and EMDR modalities to deal with trauma and processing errors.
I have been married thirty seven years and raised four children to adulthood. I currently have five grandchildren and have lived in the mountains of Idaho the majority of my life.
I enjoy engaging in a meaningful discussion of what can make us our best self and returning me to what is my source of power, We will discover together how you can capitalize on that strength and use it to build or nourish crucial relationships. By reviewing processing skills or thinking errors, we identify patterns of behaviors or emotions that are self-destructive or even debilitating.
In couples and family therapy we work to find ways that we tend to sabotage ourselves, other relationships and inadvertently set ourselves up to fail. While doing this we identify the impact of such behavior and plan for how to change habits or eliminate negative tendencies.
Restoring joy to the heart and mind of those who have lost that spark or are finding it difficult to get past traumatic events or relationships, can bring a sense of hope and self-accomplishment that will energize themselves and others. With courage, commitment and effort, we can do this together!

Juan: CBRS/CM

I have a B.S. in Psychology from University of Idaho. I was born in Mexico, but I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to be raised in the U.S. thanks to my parent’s hard work in getting my family permanent residency with each of us eventually becoming citizens. Growing up in Nampa and going to school in the small town of Melba, Idaho has been my home for most of my life. I spend my free time trying and learning something new. Some of my recent learning involves crafting, writing, and video editing. I feel it is important to find something that takes the edge off and for me that is pretty much anything that involves multiple steps toward achieving a goal. I have made a lot of supportive friends throughout the years that made me who I am today. Although many of them are now miles and miles away, I still spend time with them every day playing video games, namely Dota 2. During my own journey with mental health, I decided that I wanted to help people in something not everyone understands. Although it has been difficult at times, I pushed through thanks to all the support from my friends and family. I now hope to use my education and life experiences to help others.

After graduating college, I worked at Jesse Tree as a Case Manager through AmeriCorps. I had the privilege to work one on one with clients and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
